“Yes happiness does come in waves” very nicely said and truly experienced by me. MALDIVES -a piece of Heaven, a slice of tranquility and a sip of serenity makes it a perfect destination. Let me take you on the journey and show you a glimpse of my Solo Trip to Maldives.

It was November and as usual a busy day at work wherein I got a call, I thought it was that annoying call from the bank to buy a credit card and was about to hang up just then the person on the other side of line said that they were happy to announce that I had won a solo trip to Maldives through a contest that I had participated on a social networking website. They had a lucky draw and 15 people were selected to explore Maldives. The only condition applicable was that the airfare was to be borne by me and the travel was for the coming weekend for 03 Nights and 04 Days (Friday to Monday). The next piece of information that they shared with me helped me finalize this trip on the spot. They informed me that the stay would be split between two water villa hotels both belonging to the Taj Group with all meals and transfers included.

Not an opportunity to be missed I immediately booked my air ticket from a flight booking agent and got it at INR 32000 on Indigo Airlines which is a three hour direct flight to Maldives. The Maldives visa is free and is stamped on Arrival. The most difficult part of the trip is the one waiting for it to start. I somehow managed to pass the three days before the trip by shopping, packing, unpacking and again repacking.

Finally it was THE day and yes it was truly happening. I met the remaining 14 co-passengers at the airport as the company sponsoring this tour had sent a coordinator to introduce us to each other and also to accompany us on this Maldives tour. It was then at the Airport that we came to know that the contest was held by the Maldives Tourism Board and that they wanted us to explore this destination and share our authentic feedback.

All the 15 of us on this trip were from different fields and hence it gave us an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas and acquaint with unique perspectives of life. We all had one thing in common that we loved travelling and were all eagerly waiting to embark on this exhilarating journey.

On arrival at the Male International airport in Maldives we first finished the Visa on Arrival formality which took us less than 30 mins.  We later found out that there was a speed boat waiting for us to take us all to the first resort i.e. Vivanta by Taj Coral Reef.

After spending about 45 mins in the speedboat, we finally got off at the hotel and were thrilled by the welcome that was arranged for us. We were showered with flower petals and there was a band too who were beating drums continuously. We were also given wet towels alongwith the traditional flower garland. They then clicked a group picture of all the 15 of us.
The reception area was a good 10 minute walk from the main entrance of the hotel. The walk was over a wooden bridge and all that we could see around us was the white sandy beach and clear blue waters.  We were comfortably seated at the reception area and the staff came over to each one of us and made us sign the room registration forms and also collected our passports, routine check-in formalities. After all the check-in formalities were completed we were given cool coconut water as a welcome drink.  Later there was a buggy waiting for us to escort us to our very own private water villas. Each one of us got a private villa. The best part of the villa was that it was built on stilts in water and you could enter the ocean through the stairs from your balcony.

We then rushed for lunch in the restaurant as we were all quite hungry. Everyone ordered their own meal and to my surprise the chef was an Indian guy and was able to serve me the Jain meal that I had ordered. It was one of the best meals that I had. After lunch, we decided to rest for a while so we went back to the villa. I just could not sleep as I was surrounded by the vast ocean and felt as though each wave had a story in it to be unfolded.

At around 5:30 in the evening all of us gathered at the beach and saw the beautiful sunset. After that the tour coordinator took us around the hotel property and even updated us on the yoga timings at the hotel. He also told us that there is a stingray feeding session that happens in the resort. Maldives Holiday Package is all about one island one resort concept and hence each hotel makes it a unique experience for the guest. It is always advisable to book packages with meals.

We were then taken in a small speed boat for dolphin watching. There was live music, drinks, and dolphins in the sea up-close and personal and all of this with the beautiful setting sun in the back-end, mind-blowing experience. After spending a good one hour at the sea we returned back to the hotel and proceeded for dinner immediately. After dinner few of us decided to walk down the wooden bridge. On reaching the edge of the bridge we lay down on it gazing at the stars. The deep blue sea around us, the still black sky over us and the stars laughing back at us; it was the promise of life in the darkness, a true experience of meeting oneself all over again in the silence of the night. This moment perfectly captured in my book of life, never to be forgotten.

We then returned to our villas at about 3 am, it was difficult to sleep again because I wanted to experience all of it in those four days without wasting any moment.
The next days at around 6am we went for the yoga session it was completely different from the ones that we usually do, totally enjoyed it. After the session we headed for breakfast wherein I had a sandwich and a cheese dosa alongwith fresh cucumber juice. Later we sat on the beach basking in the sun. We then headed to our villas to freshen up. The bath tub overlooking the ocean and some amazing toiletries, can’t describe much, but it was truly awesome.

Post lunch we proceed to the next resort i.e. Taj Exotica, which was a 30 minute drive by a speedboat from Taj Coral Reef. On Arrival we were welcomed with orchid garlands and a dance performance after which we were taken to the reception area. The check in formality took less than 5 minutes and while the procedure was being completed they served us with cocktails and mock-tails.

Later we were all seated in a buggy and taken to our private pool villas with a plunge pool in the villa.  We couldn’t have been more excited as it was great to take a dip in the pool overlooking the ocean and clicking like a million of snaps wouldn’t have quantified or justified this journey. But yes as they rightly say TRAVEL MAKES YOU RICH, it was a fulfilling experience.

At around 5:30 pm in the evening we went to the deck to witness the jaw-dropper, show-stopper event i.e. shark feeding. We later enjoyed some awesome drinks on the beach against the beautiful setting sun. Dinner was a grand affair, the catch here was that you name a dish and they make it for you. I ordered a veg pizza and it was simply delicious.

I later had a dip in the plunge pool and read a book with some light music in the background. Early the next morning we went exploring the hotel property in a buggy and saw the various amenities and facilities offered by them. A unique feature that stands out in this hotel property was a swing right in the middle of the ocean wherein we could click photos after photos against the picturesque backdrop of the ocean and capture the sun in its different moods all in a single frame.

Later at around 09:30am we all assembled in our swimming costumes near the reception area and together went for coral reef viewing. They actually take you deep down into the waters, you need not worry much as there is an instructor who holds your hand throughout the session and therefore it is absolutely safe. One can see the vast marine life with different species of colorful fishes all around you. It’s only then you can experience nature in its un-touched and un-disturbed form. It was a gratifying experience indeed, a date with nature at its best.

We had spent a good one hour in the water and by the time we were out of it we were all starving so we proceeded for lunch directly. I think all of us might have had the heaviest meal that day after which we went to the villa for some rest. After resting for about an hour or so we went to the beach and had some drinks followed by a light dinner. We spent some more time at the beach gazing at the sky as the next morning we were to check-out.

It was the last day of the trip and we all checked out of the hotel at around 11 am, we were given a book as a memento with our candid photos pasted in it. It was a great gesture. The entire hotel staff thanked us for our visit and requested us to visit them again. They escorted us to the end of the wooden bridge and to our surprise the transfer back to the airport was in a sea plane. It was an exclusive chartered experience and hence the feeling was royal indeed. The seaplane offered a spectacular aerial view of the island. We reached the Airport in about 10 minutes. We left the Exotic island of Maldives with lots of memories and lots of reprogramming done to our mind so as to feel and experience life with refreshed energy, meaning and vigor.
